And [remember] when Moses said to his people, “O my people, you have wronged yourselves by taking the calf [for worship]. So repent to your Creator and kill yourselves [i.e., the guilty among you]; that is best for you with your Creator.” Then He accepted your repentance, for He is the Accepter of Repentance, the Most Merciful.

واذكروا من هذه النعم أن وفقكم الله للتوبة من عبادة العجل، حيث قال موسى عليه السلام لكم: إنكم ظلمتم أنفسكم باتخاذكم العجل إلهًا تعبدونه، فتوبوا وارجعوا _إلى خالقكم_ ومُوجدكم، وذلك بأن _يقتل بعضكم بعضًا_؛ والتوبة على هذا النحو خير لكم من التمادي في الكفر المؤدي إلى الخلود في النار، فقمتم بذلك بتوفيق من الله وإعانة، فتاب عليكم؛ لأنه كثير التوبة رحيم بعباده.
