المطففين

Woe to the defrauders[1],

[1] i.e., those who cheat people by giving them less in sale transactions, an amount so little as to hardly be noticed.

ধ্বংস তাদের জন্য, যারা পরিমাপে কম দেয়।

those who take full measure when they take from others,

যারা লোকদের কাছ থেকে মেপে নেয়ার সময় পূর্ণমাত্রায় গ্রহণ করে।

but they give less when they measure or weigh for them.

আর যখন তাদেরকে মেপে দেয় অথবা ওযন করে দেয়, তখন কম দেয়।

Do they really not think that they will be resurrected

তারা কি বিশ্বাস করে না যে, নিশ্চয় তারা পুনরুত্থিত হবে?

for a momentous Day,

এক মহা দিবসে?

a Day when people will stand before the Lord of the worlds?

যেদিন মানুষ সৃষ্টিকুলের রবের সামনে (হিসাবের জন্য) দাঁড়াবে।

No indeed! The record of the wicked is surely in Sijjīn.

কখনো নয়, নিশ্চয় পাপাচারীদের ‘আমলনামা আছে সিজ্জীনে।(১)

(১) আমলনামা সিজ্জীনে অর্থ ক্ষতির মধ্যে নিমজ্জিত অথবা সংকীর্ণ জায়গায় বন্দী অথবা চিরস্থায়ী কয়েদখানায়।

How do you know what Sijjīn is?

হে রাসূল! কিসে তোমাকে জানাবে ‘সিজ্জীন’ কী?

It is a clearly inscribed Record.

লিপিবদ্ধ কিতাব (আমলনামা)।

Woe on that Day to the deniers,

সেদিন অস্বীকারকারীদের জন্য ধ্বংস অনিবার্য।

those who deny the Judgment Day!

যারা প্রতিদান দিবসকে অস্বীকার করে।

None denies it except every sinful transgressor.

আর সকল সীমালঙ্ঘনকারী পাপাচারী ব্যতীত কেউ এ দিবসকে অস্বীকার করে না।

When Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Ancient fables[2]!”

[2] i.e., tales of old times, legends of former peoples.

যখন তার কাছে আমার আয়াতসমূহ তিলাওয়াত করা হয় তখন সে বলে: ‘(এগুলো হলো) পূর্বেকার জাতিদের রূপকথা।’

No indeed! Their hearts have been stained by what they used to commit[3]!

[3] i.e., their sins and evil deeds.

কখনো নয়; বরং তারা যা (যে পাপ) অর্জন করত তা-ই তাদের অন্তরসমূহকে ঢেকে দিয়েছে।(২)

(২) ফলে তারা নিজেদের অন্তর দিয়ে সত্যকে দেখতে পায় না।

No indeed! On that Day they will be barred from seeing their Lord[4].

[4] As a punishment, since the believers will see Him.

কখনো নয়; নিশ্চয় সেদিন তারা তাদের রবের দর্শন থেকে পর্দার আড়ালে থাকবে।

They will then surely enter the Blazing Fire,

তারপর নিশ্চয় তারা প্রজ্বলিত আগুনে প্রবেশ করবে।

then they will be told, “This is what you used to deny.”

তারপর তাদেরকে বলা হবে: ‘এটাই সে শাস্তি যা তোমরা অস্বীকার করতে।’

No indeed! The record of the righteous is certainly in ‘illiyyīn –

কখনো নয়; নিশ্চয় আনুগত্যশীল লোকদের আমলনামা থাকবে ইল্লিয়্যীনে।(৩)

(৩) ইল্লিয়্যীন সপ্তম আকাশে আরশের কাছে এক স্থানের নাম। এতে মু’মিনদের রূহ ও আমলনামা রাখা হয়।

and how do you know what ‘illiyyūn is? –

হে রাসূল! কিসে তোমাকে জানাবে ‘ইল্লিয়্যীন’ কী?

It is a record inscribed,

লিপিবদ্ধ কিতাব (আমলনামা)।

witnessed by those who are close to Allah.

(আল্লাহর) নৈকট্যপ্রাপ্তরাই (ফিরিশতারাই) তা অবলোকন করে।

Indeed, the righteous will be in Bliss,

নিশ্চয় আনুগত্যশীলরা (কিয়ামত দিবসে) সুখ-স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের মধ্যে থাকবে।

seated on the couches, gazing in wonder.

তারা সুসজ্জিত আসনে বসে (৪) দেখতে থাকবে।

(৪) স্বীয় রবকে এবং সুখ-স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যময় জান্নাতকে।

You will see on their faces the radiance of bliss.

তুমি তাদের চেহারাসমূহে সুখ-স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যের লাবণ্যতা দেখতে পাবে।

They will be served to drink pure wine from a sealed container,

তাদেরকে মোহরকৃত বিশুদ্ধ পানীয় পান করানো হবে।

whose last sip is musk[5] – let those who strive, strive for that –

[5] i.e., having a lingering odor.

তার মোহর হবে মিসকের। আর (এ সম্মানজনক প্রতিদান পাওয়ার জন্য) প্রতিযোগিতাকারীদের উচিত এ বিষয়ে প্রতিযোগিতা করা।

and it will be mixed with water from the spring of Tasnīm[6],

[6] It is the highest spring in Paradise.

আর তার মিশ্রণ হবে তাসনীম (নামক ঝরনা) থেকে।

a spring from which those who are close to Allah will drink.

তা (জান্নাতের উঁচু স্তরের) একটি ঝর্ণাধারা, যা থেকে (আল্লাহর) নৈকট্যপ্রাপ্ত বান্দারা পান করবে।

Indeed, the wicked used to laugh at the believers;

নিশ্চয় যারা অপরাধ করেছে, তারা (দুনিয়াতে) মু’মিনদেরকে নিয়ে হাসি-ঠাট্টা করতো।

when they passed by them, they would wink at one another,

আর (দুনিয়ায়) যখন তারা মু’মিনদের পাশ দিয়ে যেত, তখন তারা তাদেরকে নিয়ে চোখ টিপে বিদ্রুপ করত।
