وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْقُرُونَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَمَّا ظَلَمُوا۟ ۙ وَجَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ لِيُؤْمِنُوا۟ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
We destroyed the generations[17] before you when they indulged in wrongdoing, and their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they would not believe. This is how We recompense the wicked people.
[17] i.e., the people of Noah, ‘Ād, Thamūd, the people of Abraham, the dwellers of Midian, and the overturned cities [of Lot]” See 9:70.
আর (হে মুশরিকরা!) অবশ্যই আমি তোমাদের আগে বহু জাতিকে ধ্বংস করেছি, যখন তারা যুলম করেছিল। আর তাদের কাছে তাদের রাসূলগণ সুস্পষ্ট প্রমাণাদিসহ এসেছিল; কিন্তু তারা ঈমান আনার জন্য প্রস্তুত ছিল না। এভাবে আমি অপরাধী সম্প্রদায়কে প্রতিফল দিয়ে থাকি।(৬)
(৬) অর্থাৎ যেমনিভাবে আমি যালিম জাতিগুলোকে প্রতিফল দিয়েছি, তেমনিভাবে আমি প্রত্যেক যুগের ও জায়গার যালিমদেরকেও প্রতিফল দিয়ে থাকি।
