Al-Qamar

The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split asunder[1].

[1] The Quraysh pagans challenged the Prophet (ﷺ) to split the moon in two so that they believe in him. The moon was split as they requested and then re-joined, and the incident was reported by several eyewitnesses in different parts of the land; however, they still refused to believe, considering it magic.

কিয়ামত নিকটবর্তী হয়েছে এবং চাঁদ বিদীর্ণ হয়েছে।(৩৩)

(৩৩) রাসূল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লামের জীবদ্দশায় চন্দ্র দ্বিখণ্ডিত হয়েছে। এটি তার একটি মু‘জিযা এবং কিয়ামতের একটি বড় আলামত।

Whenever they see a sign[2], they turn away and say, “Same old magic!”

[2] The prophets were given signs or miracles as a proof that they were commissioned by Allah. Moses (عليه السلام) was given the miracles of staff and a bright hand. Jesus (عليه السلام) would give life to the dead and heal the blind and the leper. Muhammad (ﷺ) was given the Qur’an, a literary miracle, challenging the masters of Arabic eloquence. Nonetheless, he (ﷺ) performed other miracles such as splitting the moon, increasing food and water, and healing some ailments.

আর তারা (নবীর সত্যতার) কোন নিদর্শন দেখলে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নেয় এবং বলে, ‘এ তো চিরাচরিত যাদু।’

They deny [the truth] and follow their desires, but every matter will reach its inevitable end.

আর তারা (সত্যকে) মিথ্যা বলে প্রত্যাখ্যান করেছে এবং নিজেদের প্রবৃত্তির অনুসরণ করেছে। আর প্রত্যেক বিষয়ই (নির্ধারিত সময়ে) তার চূড়ান্ত পরিণতিতে উপনীত হবে।

There have already come to them stories [of destroyed nations] that are sufficient to deter them,

আর তাদের কাছে তো (২) সংবাদসমূহ এসেছে, যাতে রয়েছে (৩)কঠোর নিষেধাজ্ঞা।

(২) অতীত জাতিসমূহের ধ্বংসের। (৩)কুফরী ও জুলম থেকে বিরত থাকার।

which contain extensive wisdom, but the warnings are of no avail.

এগুলো পরিপূর্ণ প্রজ্ঞার কথা; যদিও এসব সতর্কবাণী তাদের কোন উপকারে আসেনি।

So turn away from them [O Prophet]. On the Day when the caller[3] will summon them to a horrific event[4],

[3] Isrāfīl, the angel assigned to blow the Trumpet and call all for resurrection. [4] i.e., Judgment Day.

অতএব, হে রাসূল! তুমি তাদের থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে নাও, যেদিন আহ্বানকারী (ফিরিশতা) আহ্বান করবে এক বিভীষিকাময় বিষয়ের দিকে,

with eyes downcast, they will come out of the graves like scattered locusts,

(সেদিন) চক্ষুগুলো অপদস্ত অবস্থায় তারা কবর থেকে বের হয়ে (হাশরের মাঠে) আসবে। মনে হবে যেন তারা বিক্ষিপ্ত পঙ্গপাল।

rushing headlong towards the caller. The disbelievers will say, “This is a hard Day!”

তারা (সেই) আহ্বানকারী (ফিরিশতা)-র দিকে ভীত-সন্ত্রস্ত অবস্থায় ছুটে আসবে। কাফিররা বলবে: ‘এটি ভীষণ ভয়াবহ দিন।’

The people of Noah rejected [the truth] before them; they rejected Our slave and said, “He is a madman,” and he was intimidated.

তাদের পূর্বে নূহের সম্প্রদায়ও (তাদের নবীকে) অস্বীকার করেছিল। তারা আমার বান্দা (নূহ)কে অস্বীকার করেছিল এবং বলেছিল: ‘সে তো একজন পাগল।’ আর তাকে হুমকি-ধমকিও দেয়া হয়েছিল।

So he called upon his Lord, “I am overpowered, so help me!”

অতঃপর সে তার রবকে ডাকলো (এবং বললো) ‘আমি একান্ত অসহায়। অতএব, তুমি (৪) প্রতিশোধ গ্রহণ করো।’

(৪) তাদের উপর শাস্তি অবতীর্ণ করে তাদের থেকে।

So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents,

ফলে আমি প্রবল বৃষ্টির পাণি বর্ষণের মাধ্যমে আসমানের দরজাসমূহ খুলে দিলাম।

and We caused the earth to burst forth with springs, then the waters met for a preordained purpose.

এবং আমি জমিনকে বিদীর্ণ করে ঝর্ণাসমূহ উৎসারিত করলাম। ফলে (আল্লাহর) নির্ধারিত ফয়সালা অনুসারে (৫) সকল পানি মিলিত হলো ।

(৫) আসমান ও জমিনের।

We carried him on an [Ark made] of planks and nails,

আর আমি তাকে (নূহকে) কাঠ ও পেরেক নির্মিত নৌযানে আরোহণ করালাম।

sailing under Our [Watchful] Eyes; as a reward for the one [they] denied.

যা আমার দৃষ্টির সামনে দিয়ে (৬) চললো, এটা তার (নূহের) জন্য পুরস্কারস্বরূপ, যাকে অস্বীকার করা হয়েছিল।

(৬) উত্তাল তরঙ্গমালার মধ্যে।

We have certainly left it[5] as a sign; is there anyone to take heed?

[5] i.e., the punishment, the Flood, or the Ark.

আর আমি এই শাস্তিকে নিদর্শন হিসেবে রেখেছি। অতএব (এ থেকে) কোন উপদেশ গ্রহণকারী আছে কি?

Then how were My punishment and My warnings[6]?

[6] As a warning to those who came after them.

অতএব, (৭) আমার শাস্তি ও ভীতিপ্ৰদৰ্শন কেমন ছিল?

(৭) মিথ্যারোপকারীদের জন্য।

We have certainly made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember; is there anyone to take heed?

আর অবশ্যই আমি উপদেশ গ্রহণের জন্য আল-কুরআনকে সহজ করে দিয়েছি। অতএব (এর থেকে) কোন উপদেশ গ্রহণকারী আছে কি?

‘Ād disbelieved. Then how were My punishment and My warnings?

‘আদ সম্প্রদায় (তাদের নবী হূদকে) মিথ্যারোপ করেছিল। অতএব (তাদের প্রতি) আমার শাস্তি ও ভীতিপ্ৰদৰ্শন কেমন ছিল?

We sent against them a furious wind[7] on a day of continuous misfortune,

[7] i.e., a tumultuous and screaming wind.

নিশ্চয় আমি তাদের ওপর পাঠিয়েছিলাম প্রচণ্ড শৈত্য ঝড়ো হাওয়া, অব্যাহত এক অমঙ্গল দিনে।(৮)

(৮) যা তাদের উপর জাহান্নামে পতিত হওয়া পর্যন্ত অব্যাহত থাকবে।

sweeping people away[8], as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.

[8] i.e., extracting them from the earth.

তা মানুষকে (৯) এমনভাবে উপড়ে ফেলছিল, যেন তারা উপড়ে পড়া খেজুরগাছের কাণ্ড।

(৯) মাটি থেকে তুলে নিজেদের মাথার ওপর দিয়ে নিক্ষেপ করে।

Then how were My punishment and My warnings?

অতএব, আমার শাস্তি ও ভীতিপ্ৰদৰ্শন কেমন ছিল?

We have certainly made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember; is there anyone to take heed?

আর অবশ্যই আমি উপদেশ গ্রহণের জন্য আল-কুরআনকে সহজ করে দিয়েছি। অতএব, (এর থেকে) কোন উপদেশ গ্রহণকারী আছে কি?

Thamūd rejected the warnings,

সামূদ সম্প্রদায়ও সতর্ককারীদেরকে মিথ্যারোপ করেছিল।

They said, “Shall we follow a single human being[9] from among us? Then we would surely be in error and insanity!

[9] i.e., Prophet Sālih (عليه السلام).

অতঃপর তারা বলেছিল: ‘আমরা কি আমাদেরই মধ্য থেকে এক ব্যক্তির (সালিহের) অনুসরণ করব? তাহলে নিশ্চয় আমরা পথভ্রষ্টতা ও পাগলামিতে নিমজ্জিত হয়ে পড়বো।

Has the revelation been sent down upon him out of all of us? Rather, he is an insolent liar.”

‘আমাদের মধ্য থেকে কি তার ওপরই উপদেশবাণী (ওহী) পাঠানো হয়েছে? বরং সে চরম মিথ্যাবাদী অহংকারী।’

Tomorrow they will know who the insolent liar is.

আগামী দিন তারা জানতে পারবে, কে চরম মিথ্যাবাদী, অহংকারী।

We are sending the she-camel as a test for them, so watch them [O Sālih] and be patient,

নিশ্চয়ই আমি উষ্ট্রীকে তাদের জন্য এক পরীক্ষাস্বরূপ প্রেরণ করছি। অতএব, (হে সালিহ!) তুমি তাদের ব্যাপারে অপেক্ষা করো এবং ধৈর্য ধারণ করো।

and tell them that the water is to be shared between them[10]; each should take its drink in turn.

[10] i.e., one day for the tribe of Thamūd and one day for the she-camel.

আর তাদেরকে জানিয়ে দাও যে, তাদের (ও উষ্ট্রীর) মধ্যে পানি বণ্টন সুনির্দিষ্ট। প্রত্যেকেই পালাক্রমে পানির অংশে উপস্থিত হবে।

But they called their companion[11], and he undertook the task[12] and hamstrung her.

[11] i.e., the worst among them. [12] Or took his sword.

অতঃপর তারা তাদের সঙ্গীকে ডাকল। তারপর সে (এ কাজে) উদ্যোগী হলো এবং (উষ্ট্রীটিকে) জবাই করে ফেলল।

Then how [terrible] My punishment and My warnings were!

অতএব, আমার শাস্তি ও ভীতিপ্ৰদৰ্শন কেমন ছিল?
