As-Saffat

For such [reward] let the workers work.

এরূপ সাফল্যের জন্যই আমলকারীদের আমল করা উচিত।

Is this a better accommodation or the tree of Zaqqūm[16]?[17]

[16] The tree of cactus. [17] The disbelievers of Makkah derided the Prophet (ﷺ) when he warned them of this tree. They wondered how a tree could grow in Hellfire. So Allah revealed this verse.

আপ্যায়নের জন্য এগুলো(২৪) উত্তম না যাক্কূম বৃক্ষ?(২৫)

(২৪) অর্থাৎ জান্নাতের এসব স্থায়ী নি‘আমত। (২৫) ‘যাক্কুম’ নামক কুরআনে উল্লিখিত অভিশপ্ত বৃক্ষ, যা কাফিরদের খাদ্য। যা না পুষ্ট করে, না ক্ষুধা নিবারণ করে।

We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers.

নিশ্চয় আমি তাকে (যাক্কুম বৃক্ষকে) যালিমদের জন্য করে দিয়েছি পরীক্ষাস্বরূপ।(২৬)

(২৬) কাফিররা এর বাস্তবতা অস্বীকার করে বলে: আগুন বৃক্ষকে খেয়ে ফেলে। তাই এটি জাহান্নামে গজিয়ে উঠতে পারবে না।

It is a tree that grows in the bottom of the Blazing Fire;

নিশ্চয়ই তা এমন এক বৃক্ষ, যা জাহান্নামের মূল থেকে উদ্গত হয়।

its fruits are like heads of devils.

এর ফল যেন শয়তানের মাথা;(২৭)

(২৭) এর ফল এমন কুৎসিত-বিশ্রী যা শয়তানের মাথার মত দেখায়।

They will certainly eat from it, filling their bellies.

নিশ্চয় তারা (জাহান্নামীরা) তা থেকে খাবে এবং তা দিয়ে পেট ভর্তি করবে।

Then on top of that they will be given a mixture of scalding water,

অতঃপর নিশ্চয়ই তাদের জন্য এর উপর থাকবে ফুটন্ত পানির মিশ্রণ।

then their final return will be to the Blazing Fire.

তারপর তাদের প্রত্যাবর্তন হবে জাহান্নামের আগুনেরই দিকে।

For they found their forefathers astray,

নিশ্চয় এরা (জাহান্নামীরা) নিজেদের পিতৃপুরুষদেরকে পথভ্রষ্ট পেয়েছিল;(২৮)

(২৮) তাই তারা প্রমাণবিহীনভাবে তাদের অন্ধ অনুসরণ করেছে।

so they rushed to follow in their footsteps.

ফলে তারাও (ভ্রষ্টতার পথে) তাদের পদাঙ্ক অনুসরণে দ্রুত ছুটে চলেছিল।

Indeed, most of the earlier people went astray before them,

আর অবশ্যই তাদের পূর্বে অধিকাংশ পূর্ববর্তী লোকই পথভ্রষ্ট হয়েছিল।(২৯)

(২৯) অতএব, হে রাসূল! তোমার জাতি প্রথম পথভ্রষ্ট জাতি নয়।

even though We sent among them warners.

আর অবশ্যই আমি তাদের কাছে সতর্ককারী (রাসূল)দেরকে পাঠিয়েছিলাম;

Then see how was the end of those who were warned,

সুতরাং হে রাসূল! ‍তুমি দেখ, যাদেরকে সতর্ক করা হয়েছিল, তাদের পরিণতি কী হয়েছিল!

except the chosen slaves of Allah.

তবে আল্লাহর একনিষ্ঠ বান্দারা ছাড়া।

Indeed, Noah called upon Us; how excellent are We at responding!

আর অবশ্যই নূহ (৩০) আমাকে ডেকেছিল, আর আমি কতইনা উত্তম সাড়াদানকারী!

(৩০) তার মিথ্যারোপকারী জাতির বিরুদ্ধে বদ দু‘আ করার সময়ে ।)

And We saved him and his household[18] from the great distress,

[18] i.e., the believers in his household.

আর আমি তাকে ও তার পরিজনকে মহাবিপদ (মহা প্লাবন) থেকে উদ্ধার করেছিলাম।

and made his offspring[19] the only survivors,

[19] i.e., Noah’s offspring: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

আর তার (মু’মিন) বংশধরদেরকেই আমি অবশিষ্ট রেখেছিলাম,

and We left for him [a favorable mention] among later generations:

আর আমি পরবর্তীদের মধ্যে তার স্মরণ (সুনাম-সুখ্যাতি) রেখে দিয়েছিলাম।

“Peace be upon Noah among all the nations.”

সমগ্র সৃষ্টির মধ্যে নূহের উপর শান্তি বর্ষিত হোক।

This is how We reward those who do good.

নিশ্চয় আমি এভাবে সৎকর্মশীলদের পুরস্কার দিয়ে থাকি।

He was one of Our believing slaves.

নিশ্চয় সে ছিল আমার মু’মিন বান্দাদের একজন।

Then we drowned the others.

তারপর আমি অন্যদের (প্লাবনে) ডুবিয়ে দিয়েছিলাম।

Indeed, Abraham was one of those who followed his way.

আর নিশ্চয় ইবরাহীম তার দীনের অনুসারীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত।(৩১)

(৩১) অর্থাৎ সে তার দ্বীনের সেসব অনুসারীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত, যারা একত্ববাদের দাওয়াতে তাঁর মতই একমত ছিল।

When he came to his Lord with a sound heart,

হে নবী! স্মরণ করো, যখন সে (শিরকমুক্ত হয়ে) বিশুদ্ধচিত্তে তার রবের নিকট উপস্থিত হয়েছিল।

and said to his father and his people, “What are you worshiping?

যখন সে তার পিতা ও তার সম্পপ্রদায়কে বলেছিল: ‘তোমরা (আল্লাহর পরিবর্তে) কিসের ইবাদাত করছ?’

Is it false gods that you seek other than Allah?

‘তোমরা কি আল্লাহর পরিবর্তে মিথ্যা উপাস্যগুলোকে পেতে চাও?’

Then what do you think of the Lord of the worlds?”

‘তাহলে সৃষ্টিকুলের রব সম্পর্কে তোমাদের ধারণা কী?’(৩২)

(৩২) যখন তোমরা আল্লাহর পরিবর্তে অন্যের ইবাদাত করে তাঁর সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করতে যাবে, তখন তিনি তোমাদের সাথে কী আচরণ করবেন?

He then cast a glance at the stars[20],

[20] His people had faith in astrology, so Abraham pretended to do the same to show them that he was not able to join them at their pagan feast and to remain in their temple of idols, while he was planning to destroy their idols.

অতঃপর সে (৩৩) তারকারাজির দিকে একবার দৃষ্টি দিল।

(৩৩) ইবরাহীম তার জাতির সাথে মেলায় বের হওয়া থেকে বাঁচার পথ খোঁজার জন্য।

and said, “I am sick[21].”

[21] The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Ibrahim (peace be upon him) did not lie except for three lies: His saying {I am sick} and his saying {Rather, the chief of them did this} and his saying about his wife, “She is my sister.” [Al-Bukhāri, Muslim]. Two of them were for the sake of Allah, and the third one was for the sake of his sister.

তারপর সে বলল: ‘আমি তো অসুস্থ।’

So they went away from him and left.

অতঃপর তারা তাকে পিছনে রেখে (মেলায়) চলে গেল।
