العاديات

By the galloping, panting horses[1],

[1] i.e., those horses that fight for the cause of Allah as they race to attack the enemy.

শপথ ঊর্ধশ্বাসে দৌড়ানো ঘোড়াসমূহের,

striking sparks of fire [with their hooves][2],

[2] While galloping over rocky terrain.

অতঃপর শপথ সেই ঘোড়াসমূহের, যেগুলোর (পাথরে) ক্ষুরের আঘাতে অগ্নি-স্ফুলিঙ্গ ছড়ায়।

launching raids at dawn[3],

[3] While the enemy is unaware of their raid.

অতঃপর শপথ সেই ঘোড়াসমূহের, যেগুলো প্রভাতে (শত্রুর ওপর) অতর্কিতে আক্রমণ করে,

stirring up thereby clouds of dust,

অতঃপর তারা (খুরের আঘাতে) ধুলোর মেঘ উড়িয়ে দেয়।

plunging thereby into the midst of the enemy[4],

[4] i.e., penetrating into the ranks of the enemy as a surprise attack.

অতঃপর সেগুলো তার আরোহীদেরকে নিয়ে শত্রুদলের ভেতরে ঢুকে পড়ে,

indeed, man is very ungrateful to his Lord[5] –

[5] disobeying Him by not spending in the cause of Allah from what He has given him and commanded him to spend accordingly.

নিশ্চয় মানুষ তার রবের প্রতি বড়ই অকৃতজ্ঞ।

and he himself is a witness to that[6] –

[6] By his words and actions.

আর নিশ্চয় সে এ বিষয়ে (নিজেই) সাক্ষী।

and he is truly extreme in his love of wealth.

আর নিশ্চয় ধন-সম্পদের আসক্তিতে সে প্রবল।(১)

(১) অর্থাৎ ধন-সম্পদের প্রতি অতিরিক্ত আসক্তির কারণে তা ব্যয়ে কার্পণ্য করে।

Does he not know that when the contents of graves will be overturned,

তবে কি সে জানে না, যখন কবরসমূহে যা আছে তা বের করে আনা হবে?

and the secrets of the hearts will be brought to light[7]?

[7] i.e., when all secrets of the hearts and faiths are made known.

আর অন্তরে যা (গোপন) আছে তা প্রকাশিত হবে।

Indeed, their Lord is All-Aware of them on that Day[8].

[8] Nothing of their affairs will be hidden from Him.

নিশ্চয় তোমার রব সেদিন তাদের ব্যাপারে সবিশেষ অবহিত।
